FAQ

I just placed an order when will it arrive?

Everything ships from San Diego using USPS priority mail services, unless it is an unusually large order, for which we use UPS Ground. Our shipping days are typically Mondays and Fridays, from which most orders go out those days. We are a small business and all orders ship directly from where we make the almond butter and granola. Delivery time varies depending on your location. Please allow 5 to 10 business days to receive your order. During the holidays it may take longer for orders to ship, especially in the weeks around Christmas and New Years.

I have a question about your single source bee pollen. Is the pollen collected and stored from single apiaries only (i.e., all the pollen is from one yard, and so there are different varieties of single source pollen, based on the yards), or is the pollen all pooled from a variety of apiaries in the San Diego region?

Our bee pollen comes from one beekeeper with a pollination business that services small agriculture in North County San Diego and Riverside Counties. Depending on the time of year, the bee pollen may be a blend of avocado blossom with wild-flowers and sage, or citrus blossom with wild-flowers and sage.

I live in Ocean Beach and was wondering if there were any stores or farmer’s markets near me?

The Hillcrest farmer’s market from 9am to 2pm, on Sundays is the closest market that we regularly attend.

How can your cacao nibs be phytic acid free?

It has to do with the quality of the genetics (100% heirloom, Arriba – naturally very low to no phytic acid), the soil, water and sun in which it is nurtured, the age of the trees but specifically the fermentation process and the sun drying. The fermentation is akin to soaking and sprouting, in fact some of the cacao is actually sprouted during the fermentation process, so phytic acid and other anti-nutients are deactivated during this stage in the processing. And the intense Ecuadorian sun drying (UVA) then knocks back any bacteria that comes about through fermentation.

Can I make cacao powder from nibs? If so, How would I do that?

Cacao powder is made by cold-pressing cacao nibs or whole cacao beans. In the process, the oils are removed, the remaining cacao is pulverized. The result gives us two products is cacao powder & cacao butter. You could grind up the cacao nibs into fine particles, but you would still have the oils.

How many servings does each ounce of maca provide? What’s a standard daily amount? How many ounces would be about a one month supply?

For fast and therapeutic results, eat one tablespoon per day in a smoothie (also, it’s great when drank in warm water with lots of honey.) It’s good to take maca in cycles. So, integrate into your diet everyday for about 4 weeks, then stop for a few days before taking it again. One tablespoon of maca powder weighs 1/4oz. So, 8 ounces should be enough for one month.

In your website you say there are different types of Maca. My research indicates that both names Lepidium meyenii, Lepidium peruvianum “Chacon” refer to the same plant.

The Chacon maca is the species that was identified and classified by Dr. Gloria Chacon in her maca research. While both species are very similar in genetics, the Chacon maca is solely grown above 14,000 feet in its indigenous environment. Meanwhile, the meyenii species is grown as low as 2500 feet, significantly reducing the nutrient-content.

I am mainly taking maca for moderate to severe menopause problems, like hot flashes & night sweats. Should I start with one tablespoon of the powder? Also, what is the best way to use it. In the morning, WITH food or WITHOUT food?

Start with a teaspoon and see how you feel. For best results, mix gelatinized maca powder into a lightly sweetened drink, and eat with a little food.

How many milligrams of maca root are in 1 tsp. of powder?

One teaspoon of maca powder weighs 2000mg.
