Kaiser Permanente Advises Clients Avoid Food Made with GMOs

In its Fall 2012 Newsletter, the corporate health insurance giant, Kaiser Permanente advised that

“despite what the biotech industry might say, there is little research on the long-term effects of GMOs on human health. Independent research has found that several varieities of GMO-corn caused organ damage in rats.”

The Kaiser Newsletter goes on to advise clients limit exposure to GMOs. In particular to avoid food made with Non-organic Corn, Soy, Canola or Cottonseed Oil. Now, about 95% of all processed-foods contain some non-organic corn derivative as an ingredient. The most notorious being HFCS, or High-Fructose Corn Syrup, which is the primary sweetener in Coke, Pepsi, and just about every soft drink. It’s a cheap laboratory invention that many processed food items, such as Nutella (sorry, Nutella-Lovers), use for sweetening. Here’s a complete list of corn-derived ingredients that are commonly found in processed foods.

Concluding the Newsletter, Kaiser Permanente advises to Buy Organic. USDA Organic is GMO-free, Look for Non-GMO Project Verified Seal, and to utilize apps and resources such as NON-GMO Shopping Guide.

“If you are what you eat, and especially if you eat industrial food, as 99 percent of Americans do, what you are is “corn.”Michael Pollan.
